Chapter 37

The Princess Sitting Next to Me is a Sweet Girlfriend Only in Front of Me

“Mmm, I ate so much!”

“There was quite a bit of food, but it’s all gone now…”

Come to think of it, Fia had ordered something pretty heavy for lunch too.

I don’t really care about the quantity, so I just ordered based on my preference at the time.

But Fia seems to be particular about her food.

“Energy for the day starts with a good meal! Eat lots and grow big and strong!”

“Well, I’m probably done growing taller at this point…”

I’m not especially tall myself, but Fia is pretty petite despite eating so much.

She’s small in general, really.

It’s not like her growth is stunted or anything.

Wait, what am I even saying?

“When we work together like this and then eat after finishing… it’s fun!”

“Yeah, I get it. Since coming to the academy, the only time I’ve really talked to people was during Archaeological Magic class, so this feels refreshing to me too.”

And then there’s when I’m working part-time.

There are a lot of women around my age there, so it gets pretty noisy.

“Hey, um… Heim-kun?”

“You suddenly got formal…? ……… What’s up?”

When she suddenly gets all serious like that, it makes me nervous too.

Though I can more or less guess what Fia’s about to ask.

And honestly, it’s not like it’s something to get this worked up over!?

“U-um… Heim-kun. From now on, would you… like to keep helping me in the mornings?”

“O-oh, yeah. Of course! I was actually going to ask you the same thing.”

For some reason, I ended up stuttering.

But when I think about it…

Even though we’re taking classes together, I don’t want to draw attention from our classmates, and not all of our elective courses overlap.

In reality, we don’t have many chances to talk to each other every day.

That could be… slightly problematic.

I’m someone who knows Fia’s secret, so it’s important for us to meet daily and exchange information about anything new that comes up.

Though maybe I’m overthinking it.

Casual conversation is still the best way to check in on each other’s situations.

“Yay! I’m so happy, really happy! Thank you, Heim-kun!”

Well, there’s also this:

No matter what, I want to keep seeing Fia when she’s happy like this. And honestly, if I can spend time with her, I want to.

Though saying it like that makes it sound kind of cheesy…

Meeting up in the morning to chat isn’t weird or anything, right?

—Since learning Fia’s true identity, the situation surrounding me has completely changed.

Or rather, Fia’s presence has grown increasingly significant in my school life.

And it’s not a bad thing.

On the contrary, it’s a good thing, but change is still change.

“I’ll count on you from now on, Fia.”

“Hmm? Of course! Likewise, Heim-kun!”

With that, I gave a little closing greeting to mark the change.
