Yeah, Yeah, Another World, Another World
After discussing with everyone, we decided to inform Osart and Rocco about our situation.
The biggest concern about revealing our background was that “we might be targeted by those in power and lose our freedom.” However, the fact that we didn’t sense any connection to those in power from these two led to this decision.
Though we called it a discussion, it was really just a casual exchange of “Can I tell them now?” “Sure,” “I don’t mind,” “Go ahead,” and “Okay.”
◇◇◇◇◇
“So that’s the story.”
“No wonder things are so crazy.”
“C-Cool…”
Rocco had a slightly strained expression while Osart looked at us with sparkling eyes. Their reactions were different, but neither showed any sign of disliking us, so I hoped we could continue getting along well.
“So, does being a seismic artifact human mean you can cast some incredible magic?”
“No, we have no idea. We only realized the incredible power when we saw Rocco’s reaction earlier. Oh, right! Here, take the magical tools we made and test them out.”
With that, I handed over the Salmon Rods to Rocco and Osart.
“I-I’m nervous…”
“If you break it, don’t expect us to compensate you!”
Waving my hand dismissively with a simple “It’s fine, it’s fine,” we continued deeper into the labyrinth.
◇◇◇◇◇
“There’s exactly one goblin up ahead.”
Hayato, who volunteered as a scout, returned from down the corridor. His cloak was dyed black, and he seemed pleased that it matched his image of what a ninja should look like.
“Alright, Rocco, try it the way I taught you earlier.”
“O-Okay…”
The towering figure we first met had disappeared, replaced by a small, hunched-over silhouette. A fireball about the size of a fist shot out from the staff he held firmly in both hands. The fireball exploded upon hitting the goblin, leaving a gaping wound in its side.
No need to check—it was an instant kill.
Rocco trembled, staring at his hands.
Then, suddenly turning around, he said:
“Sell me this!”
“No way! Besides, aren’t you supposed to be a frontline warrior?!”
Rocco, having realized the wonders of magic, suddenly declared a career change. I immediately rejected it. Still, he kept looking at me with pleading eyes, so I ended up promising to make him one later.
Then, Rocco crouched down, pressing his fingers to his forehead.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
“I think I’ll recover soon, just wait a bit…”
Everyone worried about Rocco’s sudden collapse, except for Okuda , who started dubbing random lines: “Ugh, ugh, with this, I can rebuild my dethroned kingdom…”
There was no retort from Rocco, which only increased our concern.
After a while, Rocco got back up and explained the cause of his discomfort.
“I think this consumes way too much mana.”
When asked what he meant, he explained that operating magical tools involves channeling commands or images into mana and then transferring it to the tool. But apparently, the amount of mana required for these tools was significantly higher than usual.
“You seem unusually knowledgeable about magical tools. Are you secretly a dethroned prince?”
“No, I’m not!”
“Then just keep defeating monsters, absorbing more magic essence, and powering up!”
Okuda suggested.
“Well, I guess so…”
Wait, seriously? Magic essence is amazing.
“Is it okay for Osart to use this too?”
Matsushita-san asked Rocco.
“I think she can handle one or two shots.”
“I see, that’s reassuring. Then let’s have Osart try it out right away!”
Matsushita-san was exuding a strange motherly vibe. Definitely something to keep an eye on…
◇◇◇◇◇
Osart’s trial run went smoothly, and we confirmed that she could defeat monsters without issue. So, we continued advancing further into the labyrinth.
“Take that!”
Okuda decapitated a kobold with a single swing of her greatsword.
“Got an ingot!”
She returned holding a copper bar that had dropped.
When I asked how she became capable of such violent actions, she explained that when she first arrived in this world, she expected to return to Earth within days. However, as more information came in, she realized returning anytime soon was unlikely. With that realization, she decided to adapt fully to this world’s ways.
Similarly, Matsushita-san was slicing through monsters with what seemed to be a halberd or glaive-like weapon she obtained from skeletons in a temple. Her reasoning, however, was slightly different—she resolved to teach Osart survival skills.
As I watched everyone’s contributions, I diligently stuffed magical copper into my backpack, continuing my efforts to prove I was useful too.
“In your world, there were no monsters or battles, right? How come those two are so good at close combat?”
“It’s the magic essence.”
“Oh, I see. Because they didn’t have innate magic essence, they could absorb ambient essence without interference. And by defeating monsters, they instantly convert that essence into their own power and store it, right?”
What the heck is he talking about? I don’t get it at all.
Rocco… this guy gives off an oddly intelligent vibe. Can street thugs make such complex deductions? Is he really a fallen prince?
“Hey Rocco, how was the ride on the silver steed?”
◇◇◇◇◇
We had already returned to the adventurers’ guild cafeteria.
But everyone’s expressions were troubled.
Some rested their hands on their mouths, others pressed their fingers to their temples, and some crossed their arms with their eyes closed. Everyone looked equally pensive.
Of course, we completed the first quest successfully, and selling the extra 70 kg of magical copper had fattened our wallets.
Including the two new members we now acknowledged as comrades, we were registering as a party of seven—but trouble arose here.
Rio, who handled the reception, asked:
“What name would you like to register for your party?”
This was the issue.
“Ah, I’ll decide on behalf of everyone. You all go ahead to the cafeteria.”
Okuda tried to sneak away, but we couldn’t let that happen.
“Oi, Okuda , don’t go naming the party something weird on your own!”
I definitely didn’t want another “Crimson Blaze.”
“N-N-No, what are you saying?! I wouldn’t do something like that!”
“Rio-san, sorry, but can we discuss the party name among ourselves and let you know later?”
“Of course, take your time. I’ll be waiting.”
And so, we all headed to the cafeteria together.
