Chapter 70 : The Boss of the 10th Floor

The Homeless Camper Wants to Live Leisurely in a Dungeon ~Even Dangerous Deep-Layer Monsters Are Just Ingredients to Me~

Passing through the gate, I was instantly transported to a small, square-shaped room. Behind me was the gate I had just passed through, and going back through it would return me to the entrance of the dungeon.

Right in front of me stood a large door. Passing through that door meant meeting the boss monster at last.

Giiiiiii!

Opening the door revealed a vast chamber beyond. At its center was a particularly large monster—this was the boss monster of the 10th floor.

“Fuuuh~”

I took a deep breath.

I knew I had to hurry, but this was my first time fighting a boss monster in quite a while. Although I believed my current power could easily handle even a boss on the 10th floor, facing a boss monster again after so long did make me a little nervous.

…Okay, let’s go!

“Goooooo!”

As soon as I stepped into the grand hall, the massive monster standing at its center let out a mighty roar.

The boss monster of this floor was the Kobold King. Ordinary kobolds were small, ugly-faced beast-type monsters. However, the Kobold King before me was an enormous creature nearly five meters tall, clad in armor suited to his massive frame and wielding a giant spear.

“…The Great Palace Dungeon had the Goblin King. Feels nostalgic.”

It had been quite some time ago, but the first boss I ever challenged was a Goblin King. Since I faced him alone, I remembered having quite a bit of trouble.

Generally speaking, boss monsters weren’t opponents you should fight alone. They had high health, and it was obviously easier to tackle them with a group rather than taking all the aggro by yourself.

Since the boss monster gates allowed a maximum of four people to pass through, the standard approach was to form a party of four—the maximum number allowed.

“Goouaa!”

The Kobold King charged toward me, brandishing his spear.

Oops, no time for nostalgia now. I need to defeat this guy quickly and move forward!

Zan!

“…Even for this floor’s level, it seems like the boss can be defeated with a single blow.”

While dodging the Kobold King charging at me with his spear, I leaped up and cleanly severed his head in one strike with Hyakutake Ichimonji. With my leg strength, even a monster five meters tall was easy to jump over.

While rushing through the dungeon floors, I had already heard from everyone listening about the Kobold King’s traits. As the first boss of the Yokohama Dungeon, he lacked status-effect attacks like poison or paralysis, and simply attacked by swinging his spear around.

Still, his massive body and heavy armor made him a much more troublesome opponent compared to regular monsters on this floor. Normally, the safe way would be to chip away at the boss little by little, avoiding risks.

After all, unlike a game, there was no “continue” function here. It was safer to gradually wear down the enemy using low-risk attacks rather than risking everything on a powerful finishing move.

“The chest contains… just a small magic stone. At this depth of the dungeon, I suppose there won’t be any rare magic items yet.”

After defeating the Kobold King, a treasure chest appeared in the center of the room, and a blue gate leading to the 11th floor materialized.

I collected the small magic stone from the chest and placed it into my magic pouch, then proceeded directly to the gate leading to the next floor without bothering to loot the slain Kobold King. After all, his materials weren’t suitable for consumption and weren’t worth much anyway.

Once I cleared this floor and moved onward, the gate to the boss monster that had closed after I passed through earlier reopened, and another Kobold King different from the one I had just defeated appeared.

…This kind of system is straight out of a video game. It really makes me wonder how the dungeon actually works.

“Higedaruma-san, over here! The direction to the next floor is that way!”

“Thanks, Kana! You’re a big help!”

Upon entering the 11th floor, Kana was waiting for me at the gate entrance, just as she had been before.

“It’s amazing… Even with boss monsters present, the time it takes to clear each floor hasn’t changed much from before…”

“For bosses on these lower levels, things seem fine. If anything, cave-type floors will probably take longer. Well then, count on me again for the next floor.”

After parting ways with Kana, I dashed rapidly across the grassy expanse of the 11th floor.

At this rate, I could probably defeat even bosses up to the 30th floor with a single strike. Of course, it would depend on the toughness of their armor or skin—but Hyakutake Ichimonji would surely cut through those without issue.

In fact, cave-type floors might slow me down and end up taking more time. Probably, the busiest area inside the dungeon would be up to the 20th floor. Since fewer people explored the dungeon from late night until early morning, I wanted to surpass the 20th floor before sunrise if possible.
