I’m the fifth son of a count’s family, but I became the head of a duke’s house.
Midway through the banquet, Erich and Kurt visited me after returning from their absence.
“…I’m very sorry.”
“We’re deeply ashamed… my lord.”
They seemed embarrassed and apologetic for arriving late to the banquet due to their positions as officers.
Well, I did initially wonder what those two were up to, but everyone needs to let loose sometimes. Especially Erich, who’s usually so serious. Knowing they were enjoying themselves, I couldn’t really bring myself to scold them.
“It seems you both were having a good time.”
When I said this, Erich bowed his head while Kurt made a face like “Not really…”
No, I wasn’t being sarcastic or anything—I genuinely meant it.
“We shall certainly erase this disgrace.”
Erich murmured, clearly resolved. Kurt also looked determined, his eyes burning with the same resolve.
Though honestly, I don’t think they’ve brought much disgrace upon themselves… It seems they’re eager for an opportunity to redeem themselves. Perhaps such an opportunity won’t be far off after all.
“Then… take care of the old man for me.”
“…”
“Eh?”
Erich fell silent, as if realizing something, while Kurt looked puzzled.
I turned around and pointed toward Herbert with my thumb.
There was Herbert, energetically drinking, surrounded by many knights and soldiers—though they weren’t dead, just passed out drunk, scattered all over the place.
Perhaps Wolf was the only one still upright.
“Hm? Oh, Erich and Kurt have finally arrived too. Come here!”
Herbert, his face flushed red, waved them over.
“I also wished to speak with Lord Erich and Lord Kurt. Please, join us now.”
It was impossible to refuse the invitation of two of our most senior retainers.
“…Then we shall go.”
“Then I will as well…”
“Yes, may fortune favor you in battle.”
Following Erich, Kurt also headed into the fray.
Those two would be formidable opponents, but they’ve had plenty to drink already. If it’s a drinking contest between them, they should manage somehow.
I can only hope that these two will act as shields and prevent the old men from coming my way.
As I watched their brave figures, a voice called out to me from behind.
“That’s nice.”
I turned around to see Leila and Arte.
“Yeah… it looks like everyone is having a good time.”
Looking across the banquet hall, everyone was chatting and drinking happily.
Although this country is still caught in the turmoil of war, moments like this to relax are probably welcome.
While watching their cheerful expressions, someone refilled my glass with wine.
“Then, shall we enjoy ourselves a little longer together?” “…Of course.”
Together with Leila and Arte, I continued to enjoy the evening with drinks, watching the lively scene unfold before us.
